With reference to Miss Bateman's application for Government employment contained in 0.8.0.2380 of 1900, I have the honour to report that Miss Bateman desires to apply for the post of Second Assistant Teacher in the Belilios Public School. Subject to the approval of the Secretary of State this post is in future to be filled by a Buropean.

2.

Any respectably educated woman is fit to do the work and although Miss Bateman did not complete her training course and is apparently not a certificated teacher, she has had some years experience and I have no doubt will make as capable a teacher as her mother.

3.

There is one great advantage in appointing persona who are acquainted with the Colony to posts in the Government Service. They cannot say, as too many do who are ap- pointed from home, that they accepted the post under a misappre- hension.

The Honourable

J.. H. Stewart-Lockhart, C.M.G.,

Colonial Secretary.

I have etcis

(Sa...) A. 1. Brewin,

Actg. Inspector of Schools.
